Royalties are great for artists who, like myself, make a few bucks from radio plays and other fees paid from venues who play protected artists.
ASCAP and BMI are organizations that pay artists based on plays on radio, venues, etc. I do wonder if, with whatever weight these organizations carry, they could perform a door-kickdown scenario.
Yes, the "Happy Birthday" is copyrighted, which is why the you'll never hear it sung in a restaurant.
